Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in Earth's continental crust, after feldspar. Its crystal structure is a continuous framework of SiO4 silicon–oxygen tetrahedra, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedra, giving an overall chemical formula of SiO2.

Quartz comes in 15 natural colours and is 100% non-porous. On the hardness scale it records a 7 (diamond is a 10). Quartz is ranks higher than even steel.

45 years ago an Italian company invented a process that simulated the volcanic effect, through a process that crushes the Quartz into controlled sizes and compresses it into slabs. The first application was floor tile, which is still the most durable/maintenance-free floor on the market. Over the years, resins where developed to bond natural pigments to the quartz to add to its design aspects.

SileStone® Natural Quartz

Silestone® is stone, only made better. Recently other companies have started manufacturing similar products using the same worldwide patented process. Silestone® is the world leader of quartz surfacing, with global distribution of product for over 10 years. Others may try to imitate Silestone®, yet it remains to be seen how effective they will become.

Natural stone and Silestone® are composed of quartz and silica. Quartz is one of the hardest naturally occurring elements found on the earth and Silestone® is 93% quartz, which is much higher than some, if not all, natural stones. These elements are bonded together with resins and colorfast pigments to assure consistency in coloring with the added features of stain resistance, heat resistance and significantly less susceptibility to cracking.

Invest in Silestone® with the additional peace of mind that your new kitchen or bath countertop, matching floor and/or shower walls comes with a FULL FIFTEEN YEAR RESIDENTIAL WARRANTY against any manufacturing defects.

If you like the look and feel of natural stone,
but you are concerned about…

  • Staining

  • Replacing of sealers and waxes

  • Natural fissures (cracks)

  • Inconsistent color and patterns

  • Lack of warranty

SILESTONE® IS THE ANSWER!

With a little soap and water, dried on spills come right off. When a stubborn spill sticks to the surface, use a Scotch-brite® pad or abrasive cleanser without any worry about scratching the surface of your beautiful countertops. Remember Silestone® is non-porous, so stains and germs will not be absorbed below the surface.

Why is Microban not used?
Cosentino has made changes to the antibacterial technology used in Silestone improving on the products bacteriostatic properties. The Cosentino R&D department in collaboration with leading companies, including Microban, have developed new cutting-edge technology exclusively for Silestone.

Silestone is the only brand of quartz surfaces that include a bacteriostatic protective system & is the only brand that will feature this new technology, owned by Cosentino.

What is the difference?
This new technology has been developed by the Cosentino R&D department exclusively for Silestone and is the most efficient solution available on the market. The same antimicrobial properties are still present, just in a new format. This technology is based on silver ion technology and is incorporated throughout the entire product during the manufacturing process.

Reason for change
Silestone is continually evolving & Cosentino’s commitment is to always apply the best available technologies in the fields of health & hygiene but also in design, resistance & durability. Cosentino has always strived to ensure that the company continues to be at the forefront of innovations, with the commitment of using strong solutions that have a proven reliability.

Is there any problem…
Not at all. Countertops fitted with the previous technology offer the antimicrobial properties Cosentino has relied on for years. The new more efficient technology ensures Cosentino stands by its commitment to always apply the most advanced innovations to its products.

How Is Silestone® Made?

Silestone® is manufactured with a state-of the-art computerized process that combines over 90% quartz minerals with binders using extreme pressure under vacuum.

How Scratch Resistant Is Silestone®?

There are only three natural stones (diamond, sapphire and topaz) harder than quartz. This makes that Silestone® is high resistant to scratches. Taking in consideration the Mohs hardness scale, the position of the quartz is 7 (diamond is 10). Therefore, using the same knife in different surfaces, Silestone® will not be scratched easily. Silestone® is high resistant to scratches, however it is recommended not to abuse its characteristics.

What Can Silestone® Be Used For?

Silestone® can be used for any in-door surface, even kitchen and bathroom worktops, stairs, panels, baths and around baths, floors, walls, bars, tables and desks…

Is Silestone® Shock Resistant?

Silestone® has great shock resistance, in most cases considerably higher than of other products used for similar applications (granite, solid surfaces, etc) which guarantees safety in the kitchen when handling very hard objects (pans, trays, etc). This resistance is achieved thanks to its quartz (which gives it its hardness ) and poliéster resin (elasticity) and the vibrocompression system used during the production process.

Will Silestone® Stain Easily?

Silestone® is a non-porous surface and very resistant to stains of coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, make-up and lot of products of daily use.

Why Would I Choose Silestone® Over Other Natural Hard Surfaces?

Through superior strength, incredible beauty and an unparalleled distribution network, Silestone® is rapidly becoming the choice for discerning consumers. Silestone® has four times the flexural strength of granite, making it less susceptible to chipping and cracking during transportation and installation.

Silestone® is virtually maintenance-free. It does not need to be sealed and cleaning is a cinch. Simply wipe the surface with soap and water on a regular basis to maintain its beauty and shine for years to come.

Difficult Spills

To Remove Difficult Spills, Soak The Area For 10 Minutes With A Mild Household Cleaner (Such As Formula 409®, Lysol®, Or Windex®) Then Rinse And Clean Away With A Soft Scotch Brite® Pad. For Stains That Harden As They Dry, Such As Food And Gum, Remove By Gently Scraping Off Of The Surface (Using A Blade Or Putty Remover) And Then Clean Using Warm Water And Soap.

Extreme Heat

Silestone® is resistant to heat and can withstand moderately high temperatures for brief periods of time without being damaged. As with any natural stone, however, certain exposure to heat may cause cracks due to thermal shock. Always use a trivet to place hot items on Silestone®. Do not use crock pots or electric skillets while in direct contact with Silestone® natural quartz surfaces.

Harsh Chemicals

The following will harm Silestone®: Drano®, Liquid Plummer®, oven cleaners and floor strippers. Do NOT use these or any other harsh chemicals on your Silestone® natural quartz surface.

Sunlight Exposure

Continuous long-term exposure to direct sunlight (UV rays) may result in slight discoloration of Silestone® natural quartz surfaces.

General Precautions

To prolong the life of your knives, always use a cutting board. Natural quartz is one of the hardest minerals found in nature, making Silestone® highly scratch-resistant. That same hardness may dull the sharpness of most knives.
